Six candidates apply for director position at new Nature Conservation Institute in Iceland

Six individuals have applied for the position of director of the new Nature Conservation Institute, according to a recent announcement from the Icelandic government. This institute is one of three newly established organizations under the Ministry of Environment, Energy, and Climate, following administrative reforms earlier this year. The other two institutes are the Nature Protection Agency and the Environmental and Energy Agency.

The candidates for the position of director of the Nature Conservation Institute are as follows:

– Eydís Líndal Finnbogadóttir, acting director of the Nature Conservation Institute
– Guðmundur Þórðarson, negotiator and specialist
– Jón Einar Jónsson, head of the University of Iceland’s research center in Snæfellsnes
– Kristófer S. Arnar P. Júlíusson, biotechnologist
– María Ester Guðjónsdóttir, tourism and business expert
– Rakel Rún Karlsdóttir, geologist

The new Nature Conservation Institute will be based in the West Region of Iceland. The position was announced at the beginning of July, with the application deadline closing on July 25. The names of applicants for the directorship of the other two institutes have not yet been disclosed.
