In the night between Monday and Tuesday, stargazers in Finland eagerly anticipated the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Observing conditions were favorable across much of the country, as the moon set below the horizon in the evening, allowing for uninterrupted viewing of the meteors. Furthermore, the weather cooperated, with clear skies reported in many regions.

In addition to the dazzling meteor shower, spectacular northern lights were visible during the night. Finnish photographers captured some remarkable images of these celestial events.

One notable photograph was taken by Maggi Forsell-Bäckström in Bromarv, Raasepori. Another stunning image was captured by Eino Koikkalainen at the shores of Lake Saimaa in Rantasalmi, South Savo. Pekka Torvi also shared a breathtaking photograph from Kalajoki, North Ostrobothnia.

Elina Järvinen documented the night sky in Sauvo, Varsinais-Suomi, while Ilari Hauhia took a captivating picture at Näsijärvi lake in Tampere’s Kaupin forest.

These photographs highlight the beauty of Finland’s night sky during an exceptional astronomical event, showcasing both the Perseid meteors and the northern lights, celebrated by both locals and visitors.
