Increased solar activity and magnetic storms were responsible for breathtaking auroras that appeared at lower latitudes during the darkest hours of Tuesday night. Vibrant northern lights were visible from Kristianstad in Skåne all the way to Kiruna in the north.

These displays coincided with the annual Perseid meteor shower, popularly known as “stjärnfallet” (star fall), which has been ongoing since August 11 and will continue until tonight.

Astronomer Per Linde expressed enthusiasm for the phenomena, stating, “It is very exciting to experience; such spectacular events in the sky don’t happen every day.”

For those interested in viewing the meteor shower, Peter Linde offers tips on how to prepare for the best experience.

The combination of the auroras and the meteor shower provides a unique spectacle for sky gazers, drawing attention from both seasoned astronomers and casual observers alike.
