Three rescue teams dispatched to assist foreign tourists at Fimmvörðuháls in Iceland

Three rescue teams were dispatched to assist travelers at Fimmvörðuháls this evening after two foreign tourists requested help. The hikers were on the trail when the weather began to deteriorate, leading them to decide they could not continue their hike safely.

According to Brynja Sverrisdóttir, chief inspector with the South Iceland police, the tourists were not in immediate danger but were feeling cold and distressed. Rescue services were sent out to ensure their safety and provide assistance.
