According to a statement from the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, the closure is taking place near Hafnarskóg, just south of Borgarnes, where the fire has been active. Asmundur Kristinn Asmundsson, the Chief of Police in West Iceland, confirmed that the fire has been extinguished and cleanup operations are underway. The driver noticed the flames and promptly stopped the vehicle to call for help.
