Students to return to school with new winter break in Denmark

Students will return to school on Wednesday, February 7, 2025, marking the first academic year to include a winter break.

The winter break will span three days, covering Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. However, there will still be a total of 193 school days in the academic year. This will be achieved by reducing summer vacation by two days at the beginning of June, and one of the two discretionary holidays that schools can allocate.

This change is part of a three-year trial program established by the Minister of Children and Education.

Proposed changes to the compulsory school law will be presented to the national parliament next spring. These modifications will focus on instructional hours and the allocation of subjects and class time.

Additionally, it has been approved to reduce the number of students in each class to 22. This adjustment is set to take effect in the 2025-2026 academic year.
