The festival “Sameinumst á Ströndum” took place for the first time this past weekend in Hólmavík, with organizers declaring the event a success and a promising addition to the local culture. Following the discontinuation of the long-running local festival “Hamingjudagar,” which had been celebrated since 2005, a group of young residents decided to create a new celebration to fill the void.

The festivities included activities for all ages, such as a flea market, face painting, grilling, and bouncy castle entertainment. Organizers reported a strong turnout, with hundreds of people visiting Hólmavík to participate in the weekend’s events. They emphasized the importance of fostering community spirit and urged attendees to mark their calendars for next year’s celebration, aiming for it to become a significant and enjoyable weekend for visitors and locals alike.

This event comes at a time when the local municipality has been experiencing some internal conflicts that have affected the community’s morale. One organizer noted that the weekend was beneficial in uplifting the spirits of residents. The festival aims to be a recurring celebration that highlights the charm and social engagement within Hólmavík and the surrounding region.
