A British air squadron has deployed four F-35 fighter jets to Iceland for air policing duties. The squadron arrived at the beginning of the week and is scheduled to remain in the country until September. Accompanying the jets are 180 personnel from the squadron. Additionally, staff from NATO’s control center in Uedem, Germany, and the security zone at Keflavik Airport are participating in related operations.

Over the next few days, the fighter jets will conduct training exercises at Akureyri and Egilsstöðum airports. Like their predecessors, the current squadron will operate from Keflavik Airport, alongside other units engaged in submarine surveillance. The deployment highlights ongoing collaborative efforts to enhance air defense and security in the region.
