Around 60 two-person teams from various regions of Finland participated in a daring tandem cycling event held on a specially constructed course over the Aura River in Turku.

At the start of the race, it became apparent that the approximately 80-meter-long track was challenging, with very few participants managing to complete the course. Many competitors fell into the water before reaching the halfway mark.

Participants were required to construct their bikes themselves, leading to creative decorations and themed outfits. Among the competitors were Helsinki residents Ninna Korkiakoski and Markko Miettinen, who donned unicorn-themed attire, a concept they have used in car exhibitions as well.

The event was open to anyone over the age of 18, attracting thousands of spectators along the banks of the Aura River who came to cheer on the brave participants. Prior to the event, the area around the river was cleared, removing various obstacles, including discarded bicycles.

Safety arrangements were extensive, with a team of lifeguards and divers overseeing the participants both on the shore and in the water.

A similar event took place last summer in the Netherlands, inspired by a popular television program, but the Turku event remained unique to Finland. This year, analogous events are also scheduled in Sweden and the Netherlands.
