A driver involved in a fatal car accident in Hirvaskangas, Äänekoski, yesterday has not yet been identified. The first news report came from Keskisuomalainen. Kari Aaltio, a detective from the Central Finland Police, stated that efforts are currently underway to determine the victim’s identity through fingerprint analysis, dental records, or DNA comparison.

The accident occurred around 3 PM, approximately 750 meters north of the intersection of Route 4 and Hirvaskankaantie. According to police, the car, which was traveling north, collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. Both vehicles caught fire as a result of the impact. The truck driver, however, was not physically injured in the collision.

Cleanup and firefighting operations continued until the early hours of the morning. Samu Kemppi, a fire chief and instructor in road traffic rescue services at the Central Finland Rescue Service, emphasized that the fire that broke out in the Äänekoski accident is atypical. He noted that it is very rare for both vehicles in a collision to ignite. Kemppi suggested that the vehicles must have been in very close proximity for this to occur. He also pointed out that while it is not common for one of the vehicles to catch fire, such incidents do happen occasionally.
