The University of Eastern Finland has secured nearly ten million euros in funding from the European Union for its master’s programs. This funding is directed towards the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Forestry, and Engineering. The programs will run from 2025 to 2030, aiming to train nearly 200 specialists. Several international companies are involved, providing students with opportunities for internships and thesis placements.

The funding will cover educational costs as well as scholarships for top-performing students, enhancing their study experience. According to Markku Hauta-Kasari, the faculty’s vice-dean, Erasmus Mundus funding is highly competitive, with over 150 applicants across Europe and around 30 being accepted.

Specifically, the funding will support two joint master’s programs and the preparatory phase for one new program. One of the programs is coordinated by the university’s departments of Computer Science and Photonics, in collaboration with KU Leuven in Belgium, Jean Monnet University in France, and Toyohashi University of Technology in Japan. The second program is led by Jean Monnet University, involving partnerships with the University of Eastern Finland, Vilnius University in Lithuania, and Université Paris-Est Créteil in France.

Additionally, the Department of Engineering Physics at the University of Eastern Finland has received preparatory funding to help develop an application for a new program, aimed at securing EU funds for future projects.
