Concerns rise over fast-track system and crime in Faroe Islands

The issue of rising concerns about the fast-track system, violence, and foreign nationals in the Faroe Islands has garnered significant attention. However, Katrin Thorsvig Hansen, a prosecutor, asserts that there is no correlation between the fast-track system and the incidence of crime among foreigners.

During a recent parliamentary session discussing the Prime Minister’s speech, there was a broad consensus to halt the fast-track system. The situation was further exacerbated by revelations that a man accused of violent behavior against a woman in Sandá in April had a prior murder conviction before arriving in the country.

In an article titled “Fast-track murderers,” Fría Barbara highlighted the serious nature of the problem. Notably, the individual currently in custody did not enter through the fast-track system; he is Polish and came to the Faroe Islands to work under an agreement for EU citizens.

Hansen emphasized that it is inaccurate to claim that the fast-track system itself is a conduit for criminal elements, as the number of foreign nationals in the Faroe Islands has increased. While there are indeed more reported cases involving foreigners, the proportion remains consistent with previous statistics.
