Kontio signs historic agreement for timber structures in Finland and Greece

A significant agreement has been reached covering the timber structures for approximately 10,000 homes across two different projects, with the first located by the Mediterranean. This deal marks the largest in Kontio’s history and is among the largest exports of building components in Finland.

The framework agreement is valued at around 250 million euros and includes substantial options for the client to expand collaboration. Initial deliveries are scheduled for the autumn of 2024, followed by the main deliveries commencing in early 2025. According to CEO Mika Rytky, these deliveries will provide a solid foundation for Kontio’s production in Pudasjärvi and bolster its position as the world’s largest manufacturer of log houses.

“The impact on employment will become evident in the spring when the deliveries commence at full capacity. The domestic construction situation is still incomplete. Luxury construction is on the rise, and we are very satisfied with the framework agreement,” Rytky noted.

In recent years, the export of log industry products has been relatively modest. Following the cessation of deliveries to Russia, the company has actively sought new markets in other countries. Kontio has successfully found new clients, including a project in Greece—the Elatos Resort & Health Club—where it will supply 39 five-star vacation homes currently under construction.
