The Finnish Defence University (Maanpuolustuskorkeakoulu) has received a €184,800 donation from an anonymous donor, as reported by the institution. The donation agreement was signed by both the donor and Major General Mika Kalliomaa, the rector of the university, during a ceremony in Santahamina on Tuesday.

This substantial contribution is expected to significantly enhance the military science research carried out at the university. The funding will allow the Department of Military Technology to hire a researcher focused on drone technology for a two-year period. The research will investigate the technological disruptions caused by drones on the battlefield, an issue that has become particularly relevant in light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In addition to research, the scholar will also engage in teaching activities. According to Lieutenant Colonel Mika Nieminen, this donation opens up pathways for students to explore innovations in drone research through their theses and subject-related studies. He emphasized that the donation has significant implications for the defense forces and the broader military academic community.
