July sees tragic rise in drowning incidents across Sweden

July is typically the deadliest month for drowning incidents. In July 2024, swimming accidents were the most common type of drowning. The Swedish Lifesaving Society emphasizes the need for municipalities to enhance accident prevention efforts. Mikael Olausson, Secretary General of the Society, stated that local authorities should conduct risk assessments at beaches, ensure adequate information on water safety, and, in some cases, consider deploying lifeguards.

Over the past decade, an average of 20 individuals have drowned in the month of July, while the average for the entire 2000s stands at 24 deaths. The drowning statistics for July in the last ten years are as follows:
