Icelandic musician Þorvaldur Halldórsson passes away at nearly 80

Icelandic musician Þorvaldur Halldórsson has passed away at the age of nearly 80. He had a successful career and was known for his performances with the band of Ingimar Eydal. His most famous song is undoubtedly “Á sjó,” released in 1965.

Born in Siglufjörður in 1944, Þorvaldur began his music career at 16 with the local band Fjórum fjörugum. He would later perform with other renowned groups, including the band led by Hauk Heiðar Ingólfsson. In addition to his early popular music endeavors, Þorvaldur also sang briefly with Ólafur Gauk’s band before turning to religious music and participating in church activities.

In his later years, he resided in Spain. He is survived by his wife, Margrét Scheving.
