The autumn school term begins today in parts of Finland, according to the Finnish National Agency for Education. Schools in cities such as Tampere, Oulu, Rovaniemi, and Hämeenlinna are starting classes today. In nearly all Finnish municipalities, school activities will commence by the end of the week. In cities like Helsinki, Espoo, Turku, and Jyväskylä, the academic year will kick off tomorrow.

The Finnish National Agency for Education estimates that around 54,000 first-graders will start primary school this autumn. This cohort of school starters has been declining for several years.
