Internal budget negotiations begin at Finland’s Ministry of Finance

Internal budget negotiations at Finland’s Ministry of Finance for the government’s funding for the upcoming year are set to begin today. The discussions will be led by Finance Minister Riikka Purra. Prior to the meetings, Purra characterized the maneuverability of Finland’s public finances as virtually non-existent. Participating in the negotiations alongside her are Municipal and Regional Minister Anna-Kaisa Ikonen and Economic Minister Wille Rydman.

The Ministry of Finance will review budget proposals prepared by various ministries for their respective sectors. The focus will be on ensuring adherence to previously decided savings and preventing the introduction of any new spending increases.
