Seismic activity increases on Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland
Seismic activity has slightly increased on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland. Over the past 24 hours, nearly 60 earthquakes were recorded near the volcanic intrusion, with the total number climbing to around 80 when including activity in the Fagridalur area. Additional seismic events have also been detected around Kleifarvatn and near Raufarhólshellir, where approximately 15 tremors were noted, the largest measuring 2.5 in magnitude.
According to a on-duty natural hazard expert, substantial seismic activity has been observed across the country, with about 200 earthquakes recorded in various regions over the last day. The conditions on the Reykjanes Peninsula continue to suggest that magma intrusion or even a volcanic eruption may be likely in the near future.
