Shoigu visits Tehran for talks with Iranian president following Haniyeh’s death
Sergei Shoigu, head of Russia’s National Security Council, has arrived in Tehran, Iran’s capital, for discussions including a meeting with Iran’s president. This visit follows the recent death of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, in Tehran. Shoigu previously served as Russia’s Defense Minister until May of last year when he shifted to the security council role.
The meeting highlights the strengthened ties between Russia and Iran, which have developed significantly since the onset of the war in Ukraine. In February, Iran supplied ballistic missiles to Russia, further solidifying their partnership amid ongoing regional tensions.
