On Sunday, Sweden’s Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in Götaland. “We are seeing significant rainfall in Småland, northeastern Skåne, and east of Vänersborg,” said Katarina Andersson, a meteorologist at SMHI. Throughout the day, numerous reports of water damage in Götaland have emerged, with around 80 homes in Halland affected.

“We are working diligently to assist with water removal and cleanup efforts as much as possible,” stated Micael Olsson, an emergency operator in Halland. The rain impacting Halland and the Gothenburg area is expected to move eastward during the afternoon and then diminish in intensity later in the evening. “The heaviest showers along the west coast have decreased, but they could return,” warned Andersson.

The Stockholm area also experienced intense showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. “We are seeing strong local downpours in the Stockholm region, which will continue for the next few hours,” said Andersson. Several locations in Stockholm have suffered from flooding due to the weather. During the afternoon, the Södra Länken highway was closed in both directions because of flooding.

At Tele2 Arena, the start of the match between Djurgården and IFK Göteborg was postponed due to large volumes of water on the football field. The rainstorm has caused widespread disruption and prompted emergency responses across the affected regions.
