Weather warnings issued for southern regions of Iceland due to strong winds

Weather warnings have been issued for the southern regions of Iceland due to strong winds expected under the Eyjafjöll mountains and in the Westman Islands. A yellow weather alert will come into effect in South Iceland at 10 AM, following similar warnings already in place for Southeast Iceland and the central highlands.

Currently, a deep low-pressure system is circulating south of the country, bringing easterly and northeasterly winds that could be quite strong, particularly from Eyjafjöll eastward to Öræfi. The wind is expected to gradually decrease throughout the day.

Travelers and outdoor enthusiasts should be cautious, as conditions may pose challenges due to high winds. In other parts of the country, lighter winds and occasional rain are anticipated, though generally dry and mild weather is expected in western regions and inland areas of North Iceland.

Tomorrow, southeastern Iceland will experience some light rain and easterly winds, while the northern highlands are forecasted to remain mostly dry. Another low-pressure system will approach from the south by evening, leading to increased wind and continuous rain in the southeastern region.

As the holiday weekend for workers approaches, poor weather is predicted, with strong northeasterly winds and rain expected nationwide. Those with activities planned are advised to closely monitor weather forecasts and warnings.
