The Finnish football team Ilves is generating significant interest in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers. Tickets for their home match next week against Swedish team Djurgården sold out in just a few hours. Ticket sales began on Friday at noon on Lippu.fi, and by around 3 PM, only a handful of tickets remained available.

The demand exceeded expectations for Ilves’ event manager, Lasse Fihl, who noted that it was a pleasant surprise that tickets sold so quickly. However, he had anticipated that the match on Thursday would reach full capacity. The game will take place at the new Tammela Stadium, which has a capacity of around 8,000 spectators.

Ilves advanced to the third qualifying round by defeating Austria Wien, with the decision made during a penalty shootout in a match held in Vienna. They had previously won the first leg at home 2-1, watched by nearly 7,000 fans. Before the match, Austria Wien was considered a favorite, given its status as one of Austria’s most successful clubs.

Fihl believes that Ilves’ strong performances against Austria Wien have heightened interest in the upcoming home game. He stated, “Of course, we gained momentum from the Austria Wien round. We’ve been playing good football for quite some time.”

Djurgården, a major Swedish club currently sitting second in Allsvenskan, features two players from Finland’s national team, Rasmus Schüller and Miro Tenho. To accommodate the significant number of expected visiting supporters, Fihl mentioned that the organizing teams would collaborate closely with authorities and security officials. A section of 500 seats at Tammela has been reserved for Djurgården fans. The match is scheduled for August 8 at 19:00, with the second leg taking place in Stockholm on August 15.
