A landslide has blocked the Strandavegur road in Árneshreppur, isolating certain sections. According to the Road Administration, significant damage has occurred, making the road nearly impassable in the Veiðileysu area. Repair efforts are currently underway, but it is unclear how long the repairs will take.

Gunnar Númi Hjartarsyn, the lead supervisor on-site, reported that heavy water flow is still present along the road, complicating the reopening process. Additionally, a large landslide has affected another road in Reykjafjörður, though that road has since been cleared.

Travelers facing issues due to the landslide have received assistance from local rescue teams. The Road Administration advises that conditions are being monitored closely, and updates can be followed on their website.

Authorities have issued warnings about potential landslides during the ongoing holiday weekend, particularly in South Iceland and the West Fjords. A significant increase in rainfall is expected, with forecasts predicting approximately 400 millimeters of precipitation in the next few days in famous regions like Mýrdalsjökull and Öræfajökull.
