Halla Tómasdóttir is set to be inaugurated as the seventh President of Iceland today. The ceremony will commence at 3:30 PM with a significant service at the Cathedral, followed by a formal event at the Parliament House.

During her first address as president, Halla expressed heartfelt gratitude, acknowledging her parents for laying a solid foundation for her life, and praising the brave women who inspired her during her youth. She stated, “I stand here today with a heart full of gratitude.”

Halla officially took office after signing her oath of office and then appeared on the balcony of the Parliament, reflecting on her homeland. The inauguration ceremony involved musical performances, including a rendition of “Vikivaka” by Sigríður Thorlacius and the Kársness School Choir.

In her post-election interview, Halla expressed appreciation to the Icelandic people, stating she felt warmth in her heart. She received about 34 percent of the votes in the June elections, significantly ahead of her competitors.

Richard Branson extended his best wishes to Halla regarding her presidency, noting that the transition from the B Team leadership signals a gain for Iceland. Until Halla officially assumes her responsibilities, the presidential duties will temporarily be held by three acting officials.

The ceremony has gained significant attention, with coverage appearing on major platforms including the Guardian. Despite earlier rain, the weather is expected to clear, providing a pleasant atmosphere for the inauguration.

Fellow candidates and prior officials have also expressed their congratulations and hopes for Halla’s success, highlighting her intelligence, calm demeanor, and commitment to the welfare of others.
