Iceland appoints Tómas Brynjólfsson as new Deputy Governor of Central Bank

Iceland’s Prime Minister has appointed Tómas Brynjólfsson as the new Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, overseeing financial stability. This appointment follows a recommendation from an advisory qualifications committee. A total of seven applications were submitted for the position, though one was later withdrawn.

Tómas holds a master’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics, obtained in 2004, as well as a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Iceland, completed in 2003. He also earned a BA in International Relations, History, and Economics from the University of Georgia in 2002.

Since 2018, Tómas has served as the director of the Economic Affairs Office within the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, and he was appointed acting chief of the ministry from January to April 2024.
