Government proposes road tax for foreign vehicles in Faroe Islands

Faroe Islands

According to the Minister of Finance, Ruth Vang, the government plans to introduce a road tax for foreign vehicles entering the Faroe Islands. She describes this initiative as an “effortless system.”

However, it’s uncertain whether this law will take effect on January 1, as the tourism industry needs time to adapt to this change. The proposed road tax is intended to help fund improvements to the road network.

Additionally, the government aims for electric vehicles to pay the same road tax, based on weight, as conventional vehicles. A proposal regarding this measure is expected to be brought before the Parliament in the coming spring, according to the legislative agenda.
