Icelandic government covers relocation expenses for incoming president Halla Tómasdóttir at Bessastaðir

The Icelandic government is covering the relocation expenses for both the outgoing and incoming presidents at Bessastaðir. This includes the move of Halla Tómasdóttir from New York to Bessastaðir.

According to a written response from the Prime Minister’s Office, there is a shared cost arrangement. The office states that the Ministry will pay for the relocation of the new president and their family from their previous residence to Bessastaðir. Meanwhile, the Office of the President will finance the move of the outgoing president from Bessastaðir.

“This is the current situation for Halla Tómasdóttir and Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, as it has been with previous presidents,” the response explained.

Additionally, the public is invited to attend the inauguration of the new president at Austurvöllur, providing an opportunity for citizens to witness the transition of power.
