Travelers report norovirus outbreak at resort in Alanya, Turkey

Many travelers at a resort in Alanya, Turkey, have reported illnesses suspected to be norovirus. Ørjan Sedeniussen from Stavanger and his partner found themselves hospitalized during what was meant to be a relaxing vacation. Instead of enjoying sun loungers, they faced medical treatment as they witnessed fellow guests being sick on the pier and around the hotel.

Sedeniussen’s ordeal escalated after checking their travel insurance following an injury. Their trip had been booked through a travel agency, which had warned them about potential health risks in advance, recommending strict hand hygiene. Despite following these precautions, they fell ill shortly after arriving. Sedeniussen fell ill by the second evening, and his partner soon experienced nausea as well.

The couple expressed frustration over being unable to switch hotels despite their concerns over reported illness outbreaks at the Sunprime C-Lounge, where they were staying. They were aware of at least 31 similar cases at the venue recently. After expressing their intent to move due to the health risks, they felt pressured to proceed with their plans.

Travel agency representatives stated that tests conducted at the hotel suggested the illness may be circulating in the broader Alanya area rather than being linked to the hotel’s hygiene practices. While eight cases remain active, they believe the number of sick guests has decreased.

With hopes of recovering quickly to salvage their remaining vacation days, Sedeniussen emphasized their disappointment at not being offered an alternative accommodation, particularly after investing a significant amount of money into their trip.
