Many travelers have reported experiencing symptoms consistent with norovirus while vacationing at the Sunprime C-Lounge hotel in Alanya, Turkey. Ørjan Sedeniussen from Stavanger is currently hospitalized alongside his partner, enduring what was meant to be a relaxing getaway turned nightmare. Sedeniussen described witnessing numerous guests being sick on the hotel’s beachfront and nearby areas. What was intended to be a sun-soaked holiday was instead marred by illness, resulting in an unexpected hospital stay. The couple was among several who fell ill during their trip. Reports indicate at least 31 similar sickness cases have emerged at the hotel in recent weeks. In a concerning turn, they learned of these sickness reports just a day before their departure. Prior to their trip, they received communications from their travel agency, Ving, urging good hand hygiene among guests. Although Ingrid Osa from Ving expressed regret over the situation for those affected, they highlighted that testing has shown the outbreak is not linked to the hotel’s hygiene, suggesting the contagion is prevalent within the Alanya area and potentially due to person-to-person transmission. Despite their good hygiene practices, both Sedeniussen and his partner succumbed to gastroenteritis shortly after arriving. They were critical of Ving’s refusal to accommodate their request to switch hotels upon learning about the outbreak. Feeling cheated of a better holiday experience after investing significant resources into their trip, they expressed frustration over the lack of accommodation options which they believe could have alleviated their situation. As they prepare to return home, they hope their health improves in time to salvage the remaining days of their vacation.
