The Blood Bank is gearing up for one of the busiest travel weekends of the year and is urging the public to donate blood ahead of the upcoming commercial holiday. A well-stocked Blood Bank is crucial, especially as the risk of traffic accidents increases during major holiday periods.

The Blood Bank faces challenges in motivating people to donate blood right before large travel weekends. At the same time, there is a heightened potential for accidents as many individuals embark on journeys. Alongside the anticipated increase in demand due to accidents, the Blood Bank continues to address routine blood transfusion needs at hospitals.

According to the department head, there is no state of emergency at the Blood Bank: “Just to clarify, we are not in a state of emergency. However, we do need to build up our stock as many holidays are approaching. This is a significant travel weekend, and we must be prepared for what may come, though we all hope nothing happens.”

She highlighted that the healthcare system requires blood donations now, just as at any other time of the year. “However, we always have patients who consume a large part of our production. They do not go on summer breaks. Additionally, there is added pressure from potential traffic accidents.”

She remains optimistic about the upcoming holiday weekend: “We hope to get through this commercial holiday with adequate blood supplies and without any accidents.”
