Tunnel to Suðuroy gains momentum following Prime Minister’s statements at Ólavsøka in Faroe Islands

A tunnel to Suðuroy seems increasingly likely following the Prime Minister’s statements at the recent national festival of Ólavsøka.

Forecasts indicate that the community will face an additional cost of 324 million in operational expenses next year.

“There is an agreement that if a tunnel to Suðuroy is to be built, changes need to be made to the operations, just as other investments must comply with certain conditions. However, there is no consensus on how this should be accomplished,” said Ruth Vang, the Minister of Finance.

Plans for developing the tunnel, which aims to improve connectivity to the remote island in the Faroe Islands, are gaining momentum, but the financial implications and necessary adjustments remain under discussion.
