In the late 18th century, Nordmannsslepa served as the most vital transport route between Norway’s two largest cities, Bergen and Kongsberg. Following its recent reopening, visitors can now explore the easternmost part of this historic trail, blending history and outdoor activities.

Dag Terje Klarp Solvang, Secretary General of the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT), expressed enthusiasm about the route, stating that it allows everyone to experience a piece of Norwegian history on Vegglifjell. The opening was celebrated with an event near Veggli Church, followed by nearly one hundred participants hiking on Sunday, July 28. Solvang praised the collaboration among Kongsberg and Omegn Tourist Association, Rollag municipality, partners, and local experts in showcasing this lesser-known hiking area.

Nordmannsslepa, which officially opened on July 28, offers a diverse and stunning landscape that remains unfamiliar to many. Hikers will traverse terrain ranging from treeless mountains to meadows filled with sheep and Telemark cattle, alongside soft mires, ancient forests, and lush deciduous woods leading down to the village.

The route is dotted with historical landmarks, including trapping pits, evidence of iron production, and a significant burial site from the Iron Age. The trail begins in Veggli Center in Buskerud, where there are various private accommodation options and the unattended DNT cabin Daggrø, managed by Kongsberg and Omegn Tourist Association.
