In the bustling city of Kristiansand, visitors from the Netherlands are enjoying a serene contrast to their home country. Peter Verhoeckx, visiting with three companions on a cruise trip, expresses his appreciation for the area, highlighting the charm of Kristiansand and nearby Mandal.

So far this year, Kristiansand and Mandal have welcomed 220,000 cruise tourists, according to local port statistics. Young travelers Carlijn Rademakers, Bobby Schepers, Floris Rademakers, and Nicolaas van der Vorm have explored Kristiansand’s streets, admiring the white houses, flowers, and expansive green areas in Nupen Park. Notably, they have also observed the city’s multitude of Teslas.

The City Train, a popular tourist attraction, offers a scenic ride around Kristiansand. Two American tourists, Candace Ochoa and her sister Nancy, along with her husband John Martin, shared their delight in the city’s vibrant and picturesque environment. They emphasized the cleanliness of Kristiansand and appreciated its historic area, Posebyen, as their favorite spot.

Frank Rosander, the City Train driver, notes that tourists often rave about the city’s beauty, particularly Posebyen, which they find impeccably maintained. Tourist interactions are pleasant, making his job enjoyable.

Cruise ships are not only arriving in Kristiansand but also in Arendal and Farsund. In Arendal, tourists love the compactness of the city, while Farsund is praised for its welcoming residents and charming small shops.

As a record year for cruise tourism unfolds, local businesses are benefiting significantly. Last year, cruise tourists contributed around 187 million to the local economy, with expectations that 2025 will set a new record for the industry.
