Mads Ousdal expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming performance of “Peer Gynt” at Gålåvatnet, saying that despite the many changes surrounding the production, the weather remains consistent. During an intense summer rehearsal, he noted the innovative storytelling techniques they’re employing while still honoring the original text’s brilliance.

The role of Peer Gynt demands significant physicality, which Ousdal feels confident in tackling, even at 53. He does not consider this iteration more physically demanding than his previous performances, but acknowledges the effort required for a three-and-a-half-hour run.

Ane Dahl Torp joins the cast in her debut as Åse, stating that while she had hesitations in the past, she now feels equipped with the right mindset to take on the role. She expressed great excitement about the script, calling it one of the best in history, and shared her enthusiasm after a recent rehearsal with Ousdal.

The director, Erik Ulfsby, is returning nearly a decade after his last production of the play, presenting “Peer Gynt” in what he describes as a 2.0 version. He aims to retain the strongest elements of past performances while introducing numerous fresh scenes.

In a personal twist, Ousdal’s son, Abel, will portray a seven-year-old Peer Gynt, allowing for a new perspective on the character’s background. Ousdal noted that previous knowledge of earlier adaptations isn’t necessary to appreciate this version, which he believes offers a unique experience for audiences.
