5G network challenges emerge for Føroya Tele in Faroe Islands

Faroe Islands

The 5G network launched by Føroya Tele in April has faced significant challenges, according to company CEO Kristian Davidsen. Promised to deliver increased capacity, faster speeds, and improved audio quality, the new network, developed by Ericsson, has not shown any improvements three months post-launch.

Contrarily, the technology has caused issues, particularly for Kringvarðið Føroya (KVF), which has struggled with live broadcasts from rowing competitions. The situation has become so problematic that KVF has opted to rely on the existing network for coverage during the Ólavsøku festival, as confirmed by Dánjal Tavsen, chief producer at KVF.

Davidsen acknowledges the difficulties but reassures that the network will be fine-tuned for better performance moving forward. He is confident that adjustments will address the current shortcomings and enhance the overall service quality.
