In a bid to enhance sustainability, Hiddenfjord, a leading fish farming company in the Faroe Islands, initiated a project several years ago to transport salmon via air. Recently, the company has expanded its efforts to harness solar energy at its production facilities.

Hiddenfjord reportedly operates the largest solar power system in the Faroe Islands, having installed solar panels on the roofs of two buildings at its smolt facility in Fútaklett and at its land station in Miðvágur. In addition, plans are underway to set up another solar power system at the smolt facility after the summer break.

With these developments, Hiddenfjord’s total solar power generation capacity will exceed 1 megawatt (MW), producing enough energy to supply approximately 140 households.

Atli Gregersen, the CEO of Hiddenfjord, emphasized the importance of taking responsibility for reducing CO2 emissions in the Western world. He pointed out that Western countries are primarily responsible for the largest carbon footprint and have the means to address it effectively.
