The CEO of Meyer Group, Bernd Eikens, expresses optimism regarding the future of the Papenburg shipyard. Eikens released a statement on Monday afternoon about the shipyard’s prospects, indicating that a recently completed audit report offers reasons for hope. The preliminary audit report suggests that the financially troubled shipyard is viable for restructuring.

According to the management’s comments, the Meyer Werft in Papenburg has the potential to return to a path of growth. However, Eikens acknowledges that there is still work to be done and savings measures need to be implemented. The statement also noted that Ralf Schmitz, who led the restructuring program, will transition to head the shipyard’s finance department.

Meyer Werft employees were informed about the audit report on Monday. The report is also seen as a crucial element in determining whether the German federal government will extend financial support to the shipyard. The final audit report is expected to be completed by August.
