Sales of female jerseys and jerseys with female names are becoming increasingly popular in Norway. Unisport, the country’s largest supplier of football jerseys, has seen a doubling of sales in recent years, setting new sales records. Torshov Sport, a sports store in Bergen, has seen a sales increase in women’s models of between 80 and 90 percent in the last four years.

Football is often associated with male players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Braut Haaland. However, in recent years, more people have been taking an interest in female players such as Ada Hegerberg and Caroline Graham Hansen. Unisport has reported record sales for both women’s jerseys and jerseys with female names.

Despite purchasing more stock this year, they ran out by March, according to sales manager, Henrik Brosø. He attributes this to the good performance of the women’s national team increasing interest. The trend has been noticeable since the European Championship in England in 2022, which was the first year the women’s model was sold out.

On Tuesday, a big match is scheduled at Brann Stadion, where Norway’s women’s national team will play the Netherlands for the European Championship qualification. Even the Brann store has noticed the increased popularity of female football players. Last year, they sold 516 women’s jerseys, a significant increase from the 286 sold in 2022. So far this year, the store has already sold 316 women’s jerseys.

Mette Hammersland, a veteran in the football community, has fought for women’s football for nearly 50 years. She is now the marketing and media manager for Brann’s women’s team and says the interest in women’s football has not come overnight. The team can now boast an average of nearly 2,300 spectators at their games. She believes that Brann in Bergen is the best place for girls and women in football right now.
