The Akraneskaupstaður city council is working tirelessly to ensure the continued operation of Skaginn 3X in the city. An offer has been received for part of Skaginn from KAPP, an Icelandic technology company that specializes in refrigeration services. However, there is a possibility that another offer will soon be made for the insolvent Skaginn 3X, according to Helgi Jóhannesson, the bankruptcy administrator. Íslandsbanki is the creditor of the bankruptcy estate, as well as the owner of the property which belongs to the family of Ingólfur Árnason, the founder of Skaginn 3X. He sold the company to the German company Baader in 2020.

Haraldur Benediktsson, the mayor of Akraneskaupstaður, emphasizes the importance of the company continuing its operations in the city. With over a century of history, significant knowledge and human resources are crucial to retain within the city. The city authorities will leave no stone unturned to ensure this and can support the company’s revival in Akranes with their planning authority.
