Iceland’s President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson makes final official visit to Árneshreppur before returning to academia

Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, the President of Iceland, made his last official visit to Árneshreppur over the weekend. During his visit, he acquainted himself with the local community and hiked the mountains in the region. After finishing his presidential term, Guðni will return to work at the University of Iceland.

Over the weekend, Guðni was reported to have thoroughly enjoyed his time in the West Fjords and expressed his gratitude for the hospitality and kindness of the locals. He emphasized the importance of unity amongst the diverse communities within the country.

During his visit, Guðni enjoyed the company of the members of the Iceland Touring Association. He was able to observe various aspects of the region and familiarize himself with the local culture, history, and natural beauty. He highlighted his experience hiking up Glissu, a local mountain peak, and his visit to Krossneslaug, a public swimming pool in Norðurfjörður.

The Iceland Touring Association honored the President with a badge on top of Glissu. In the fall, Guðni will return to the University of Iceland to pursue research and education. Until then, he plans to fulfill his duties and enjoy each day. He expressed his contentment and eagerness to start the next chapter of his life.

Guðni’s visit to Krossnesslaug in Norðurfjörður coincided with the pool’s 70th-anniversary celebration this summer.
