Government presents legislative proposal on work permits to Parliament in Sweden

Today, the government is set to present a legislative proposal to Parliament regarding the so-called three-month rule. The aim of this proposal is to tie work-related residence permits more closely to employment. Under the new regulations, a work immigrant would be required to secure a new job within three months of the end of their previous employment or leave the country. For specialized experts, the timeframe to find a new position would be extended to six months.

The proposal has faced considerable criticism during the summer consultation phase, with nearly all stakeholders expressing concerns that the proposed timelines are too short.
