Icelandic lawmakers Oddný Harðardóttir, Óli Björn Kárason, and Steinunn Þóra Árnadóttir to retire from parliamentary elections

In the upcoming parliamentary elections, several prominent Icelandic lawmakers have announced their decision not to seek re-election. Oddný Harðardóttir, a member of the Social Democratic Alliance, made her announcement via Facebook, stating she will not run again. Harðardóttir has served in Parliament since 2009 and held the positions of Minister of Finance and Minister of Industry during the coalition government between the Social Democrats and the Left-Greens from 2009 to 2013. She has been the party leader in the South Constituency since 2013.

Joining her in this decision are Óli Björn Kárason from the Independence Party, who was previously the party’s parliamentary group leader and ranked fourth on the party’s list in the last election. Steinunn Þóra Árnadóttir of the Left-Greens also confirmed today that she will not be a candidate again, having held her seat since 2014. Earlier, Arndís Anna Kristínardóttir Gunnarsdóttir, a member of the Pirate Party, had also announced her intention not to seek re-election.
