Hans Jákup Langgaard abruptly resigned from his position as CEO of Posta after just ten months in office. As stipulated in his employment agreement, Langgaard will receive a severance package that includes a salary for six months and a bonus of 200,000 Danish kroner.

Joan Magnus Rasmussen, chairman of the Posta board, confirmed that Langgaard’s resignation came as a surprise to the board, which was otherwise satisfied with his performance. The board’s current focus had been on streamlining operations effectively.

During a briefing with Bjarni Kárason Petersen, the Minister of Interior Affairs overseeing Posta, Rasmussen revealed details about the arrangement made with the outgoing CEO, emphasizing that it aligns with the terms of his contract.

Rasmussen did not disclose the monthly salary of Langgaard, who will continue to receive compensation through November. When asked whether it was beneficial for Posta that Langgaard resigned while also receiving six months’ pay and a 200,000-kroner bonus, Rasmussen refrained from commenting on that aspect.

This situation raises questions about corporate governance and compensation packages in publicly traded companies, particularly when an executive opts to leave of their own accord.
