Citizen initiative surpasses 50,000 signatures to push for funding reforms at Yleisradio in Finland
A citizen initiative aimed at tightening the funding and responsibilities of Finland’s national public broadcasting company, Yleisradio (Yle), is moving forward to Parliament. The required threshold of 50,000 signatures was surpassed this afternoon, according to the website Kansalaisaloite.fi.
The initiative titled “Yle Under Control Now!” demands that Yle undergo stricter financial adjustments and have its statutory duties more precisely defined to align with the wishes of the public and the needs of society. The initiative asserts that Yle, which is funded by taxpayer money, must adapt to the realities of public finances.
