A 66-year-old Norwegian veterinarian, Rolf Nordmo, is facing a request for detention for the murder of his ex-partner, Janne Puhakka. Nordmo has admitted to shooting Puhakka with a shotgun. The detention hearing is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM today at the Western Uusimaa District Court.

The police initially investigated Puhakka’s death as manslaughter, but the charges have since been upgraded to murder. Investigation leader Matti Högman noted that “more violence than necessary” was used in the crime, which they believe was premeditated and involved significant brutality.

A candlelight vigil has been held outside Puhakka’s former home in Espoo, where many candles have been placed in remembrance, highlighting the community’s grief over the incident.

Högman explained that Puhakka had moved out of their shared home in Espoo’s Henttaa area a few weeks prior to the incident. On the day of the shooting, Puhakka returned to her former residence, where Nordmo allegedly grabbed a weapon. The police described the circumstances leading up to the shooting as related to practical arrangements regarding the end of their cohabitation.

While the full details about the firearm’s deployment remain unclear, it is suggested that the weapon was introduced swiftly upon Puhakka’s arrival. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter, and Nordmo has not disclosed any prior instances of violence toward Puhakka during police questioning. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
