A Turku man has been sentenced to 10 years and 7 months in prison for fatally stabbing an acquaintance in October 2023. The incident occurred in a private residence on Vanhalla Hämeentiellä. The court deemed the act particularly brutal due to the number and intensity of the knife strikes.

Last week, the court ordered a mental health evaluation for the convicted individual, which concluded that he was sane at the time of the offense. According to a witness present at the scene, an argument escalated between the perpetrator, a man in his twenties, and the victim, a man in his thirties, leading to multiple stabbings with a folding knife. A woman nearby attempted to intervene, but the assailant struck her three times with the knife. As a result, he was also convicted of aggravated assault, which further lengthened his prison sentence.

Both the injured woman and the deceased managed to leave the residence to seek help; however, the stabbed man succumbed to his injuries.

The convicted individual has a significant criminal history. In May 2023, the Western Uusimaa District Court sentenced him to 1 year and 4 months of probation for aggravated assault. He has also received convictions for eight instances of assault between 2020 and 2022, as well as charges related to theft, vandalism, and violation of domestic peace. In addition to his prison sentence, the court ordered him to pay a total of €52,000 in compensation to the victim’s parents and the woman he assaulted.
